TÜBİTAK 1001 PROJECT - AN INNOVATIVE SYSTEM PROPOSAL FOR THE INTEGRATION OF URBAN RENEWAL AND RETROFITTING TO IMPROVE THE EXISTING BUILDING STOCK IN REDUCING SEISMIC RISK IN ISTANBUL
Why this Research?
Istanbul’s Reality and the Search for Solutions
This research introduces an innovative and original model that integrates the processes of "retrofitting" and "urban renewal" to improve the existing building stock in the earthquake-prone regions of Istanbul. Aiming to address the scarcity of literature and bridge the implementation gap, the study develops a multidimensional analytical approach encompassing legal frameworks, financial resources, actor behaviors, and spatial data.
Applicable to all settlements facing similar vulnerabilities, primarily Istanbul, this methodology aims to serve as both a theoretical framework and a practical guide for mitigating earthquake risks.
